DAY 1: ARRIVE AT COCHIN
Welcome to Cochin! We will be all set to welcome you at the airport along with a personal car and a driver. We will head towards the hotel, wherein you will get your welcome tour package, while you check in to your room.
DAY 2: COCHIN
This will be the start of the amazing holiday planned for you in the package. Our travel expert would guide you towards the island of Cherai. We will start with a visit to the 19th century Azheekkal Sree Varaha Venkateswara Temple, which is quite impressive and attractive. Straight from here, we head over to the Portuguese Fort that is quite magnificent to watch. This was built back in the year 1503 and is famous for being one of the oldest European buildings in India. We will also take you the Pallipuram Church, built by the Portuguese.
This will be followed by a walk at the beach to explore the coastal customs of the locals here.
We will now take you back to the hotel; you can relax a while and get prepared for an exciting evening.
We have another cultural arrangement for you in the evening. We will take you to a nearby local theatre to witness enchanting traditional Kathakali dance performance. This is one of the richest dance forms of our country.
DAY 3: COCHIN
The day is kept aside for you to explore the magnificent port city of Cochin and historical culture that carries a bit of the European trace, owing to its great and rich history.
We will start our day with a visit to the Jewish Synagogue that is generally closed on Fridays and Saturdays however, if we get to visit on any of the mentioned days, we will re-schedule your visit again.
Right next to the synagogue, we will head towards the historical and vibrant Jew Street that has some of the most beautiful antique stores and souvenir shops. Our next stop will be at the St. Francis Church that was built by Franciscan friars from Portugal in the year1503.
Next will be a beach visit, wherein you will get to look at some of the most amazing fishermen, who work with massive Chinese fishing nets. You will be surprised to see the big size of the nets, while the local fishermen handle it with great unity, coordination and rhythm. The local people out here are cheerful, joyous and they love spending their day catching fish and earning their bread and butter.
These Chinese Fishing nets are great to look and have a different and extremely useable design that was brought in our country, almost 600 years ago by the famous travel from China, Zhang He
For dinner we have a special plan for you. We will take you for dinner to the home of a famous keralan chef, who would honor you with some of the delicacies of the traditional and authentic cuisine. Post dinner we will drop you at the hotel.
DAY 4: COCHIN - BACKWATERS CRUISE
The day is going to double up the fun element of the entire trip. We will take you to the backwaters, wherein you will be transferred to a houseboat to spend the night aboard.
The surroundings of this place is just going to add up on the stay here. It’s a natural set up of fresh water, natural and lush green vegetation. Along with numerous coconut trees that all add up to the entire experience and make it a great and memorable.
This is one of the cleanest kept places, even after being the second most visited place in our country, right after the Taj Mahal.
DAY 5: PERIYAR NATIONAL PARK
Right after you step out of your houseboat in the morning we will drive you through the scenic Western Ghats towards Thekkady. This certainly is one of the most striking drives of South India. Upon your arrival at Thekkady, we assist you to check in at a picturesque natural resort.
You can enjoy your stay amid the spice country, while you breathe in clean and pure air and enjoy the majestic peace in your surroundings, living in the lap of nature.
Periyar National Park is situated surrounding a serene imitation lake that was built back in 1895 by constructing a dam on the Periyar River. The terrain is mountainous with a thick cover of forest which is a natural home for a variety of species like tigers, elephants and many more species.
In the afternoon we will take you to the spice plantation where you will get to experience the aroma and the natural smell of the various magical and medicinal herbs of our country.
DAY 6: THEKKADY (PERIYAR)
The day will begin with a drive towards the Lake Periyar while you go on board to a lake cruise on the extravagant lake. The surroundings are both stunning and dreamlike, as prehistoric tree bases still obtrude from the waters. As the Lake Periyar is on the record a Tiger Reserve, Tigers are rarely seen here, while you will be seeing a lot of elephants here though.
We have two options to offer you to choose from, you can either opt to enjoy your beautiful green resort and cherish its surroundings during the peaceful afternoon.
We have an elephant safari option for you. Get to spend some more time with the chefs of the resort, tasting the diverse spices grown and abundantly used here or you can head straight to an Ayurvedic Spa that is worth a try.
DAY 7: THEKKADY – MADURAI
This day will start with a drive towards Madurai. Upon arrival our representative would help you to check-in at the hotel.
Being about 2,500 years old, Madurai is the second prime city of Tamil Nadu carrying imperative traditions culture while being one of the major commercial hubs.
We have an exciting evening planned for you with the Palli Arai ceremony that will be held at the mammoth Sree Meenakshi Temple Complex escorted with our travel advisor with you. This intricate ceremony is done with complete rituals here and is very popular. You will be amazed to see such a lavish ceremony and you will also get to hear great stories about the Temple complex.
DAY 8: MADURAI
This day will be dedicated to city sightseeing of Madurai. We will start the tour by visiting the grand Sree Meenakshi Temple. It is an amazing monument which is one of the best examples of the Dravidian temple design in India.
You will get a glimpse of the Hindu priests doing the various rituals in the various zones of the temple complex including the spiritual features of customary weddings.
We will head straight to the Thirumalai Nayak Palace, which had been built in the 1636 A.D. by an Italian designer. You are free to either rest at the resort or explore the city further on for the rest of the evening. We will provide you with a personal car and a driver for your assistance.
DAY 9: MADURAI – KARAIKUDI (CHETTINAD)
Following checkout, we will proceed towards a nearby town called Karaikudi. On the way you can explore the traditional brick kilns. Upon arrival at Karaikudi, we will help you check in at the boutique lodge. It is a Chettinad mansion, which is extremely great and dreamlike.
It carries some of the most incredible details like the opulent materials brought in for its structure along with the construction and the remarkable design offers a view that you must not have seen before.
We will take you to explore the town of Chettinad. Karaikudi being the capital of the Chettinad area is an enthralling rural area that consists of more than 76 villages and many smaller towns.
The whole day is at your choice. You can explore the magnificence of the city until evening.
DAY 10: CHETTINAD – TRICHY -TANJORE
Following check-out, we will take you to Tanjore on the way towards heading to Trichy. Upon arrival at Trichy we will take a halt at the historical Tiruchirappalli Rock Fort and Temple Complex. You can get yourself clicked in its beautiful ambience while our travel expert will let you know more about the town.
As we get closer to Thanjore, we will take you through the cashew plantations along with a short halt at the rural wayside cashew roasting and shelling process which is great to watch upon.
We will help you check in to your hotel followed by a visit to the grand Living Chola Temples that are amongst the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is indeed is an age old Temple Complex being built on a single piece of granite. While our travel advisors will be present there to guide you further from here on.
Post to the temple visit, we will head straight to Brihadishwara. Next on our list will be a drive to the cultural Tanjore Museum. The Museum comprises some of the most interesting and stimulating remains from the past like a historical temple, stone sculptures along with wax processed bronzes, collected from the various regions of our country.
We will now drop you back to your hotel room a comfortable night’s sleep.
DAY 11: TANJORE – MAHABALIPURAM
Get ready for another exciting and fun filled day. After a healthy and filling breakfast, we will guide you to out next halt at Mahabalipuram. Upon arrival we will transfer you to the serene ocean front resort.
Post lunch, enjoy a nature walk at the beach while you get a glimpse at the local fishing community as they would be returning back home after a hard and prosperous day at the sea. The shore is full of bright and colorful wooden boats, as the local fishermen wrap up for the day at this time. You can take pictures, interact with them and look at their daily activities of carrying their catch, weighing them up, negotiating its sale and much more. The most interesting part is the content and happy faces they carry, even after juggling hard to earn their bread and butter, however you will see the entire lot being extremely hard working yet happy.
You can also visit the 8th century Shore Temple, which is very near to the beach.
DAY 12: MAHABALIPURAM
The day is dedicated to explore the coastal town of Kanchipuram. There are many temples here as well, however as you have already explored some of the greatest temples back in Madurai, we would highly recommend you to spend the day enjoying the beauty around your resort, exploring the nearby fishing community and indulge into a little bit of shopping at the bazaar. The old and historical holy city of Kanchipuram is also called the Golden City of a Thousand Temples and considered being one of the seven sacred cities of our country. Later on from here, you can explore the silk weaving done majorly in this town. In fact the Kanchi silk sarees are made here, which is the finest of the silk quality cherished in the entire country and even abroad. Towards the evening we will take you to a silk weaver’s home so that you can get closer look at the entire weaving process all by yourself.
After the day’s tour, we will head back to your resort in Mahabalipuram.
There is another option of a tour at port of Mahabalipuram, which has been considered as the second capital of the Pallava Kings of Kanchipuram, the initial Tamil dynasty that came to power right after the Gupta Empire collapsed. The city is clad with big rock high rise temple domes that look much like small mountains, the artificial caves etc. that are all located within the same area, making the port city look much like a museum.
After this, we will head towards the beach, wherein you can view the serene and pictorial beauty of the Bay of Bengal. The well-known Pancha Rathas Temples, the Penance of Bhagirath, the Shore Temple, the huge bas-relief Descent of the Ganges along with the eight Mandapams are all major highlights of the city.
While in the evening you can get a glimpse into the fishermen community on the beach looking as busy as ever, playing around with their bright and vibrant boats made out of wood, while at their time they all return back home after a tough day at work.
We will drop you at your resort for an overnight stay.
DAY 13: CHENNAI – INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT OR MUMBAI/DELHI
This is the final day so you need to check out by noon, while we drop you off at the Chennai airport so as you take your flight from there on. You can board your international flight or your take the domestic flight towards Mumbai/Delhi.
